Krisjon Svanberg Design is a modern multidisciplinary design firm working internationally and based in San Francisco California. The Principal Krisjon Svanberg Associate AIA began his architectural and design career as a carpenter in the construction industry with his grandfather a carpenter and immigrant from Hammarstrand Sweden and later working with his father a general building contractor in San Mateo California. Mr. Svanberg’s influences also draw from his maternal grandfather a shoemaker from Calabria Italy who established a shop in San Francisco. After a 15 year period working as a carpenter with his father Mr. Svanberg then made the decision to pursue his passion in architecture and design.
Krisjon Svanberg’s academic work included practical and theoretical studies with Professors William Whifler AIA and Paul Zimmerman AIA the founders of the Department of Architecture at the College of San Mateo, California. Twelve years of professional mentorship and studies with Farro Essalat Architect AIA RIBA -former professor at the School of Architecture Tehran University
Mr. Svanberg’s first employment began in 1986 as a draftsman with the firm Markling & Yamasaki Architects in Burlingame California working directly with Mr. Kazuo Yamasaki Architect designing commercial and residential projects. Mr. Svanberg also engaged in a rigorous 12 years of study and work with Architect Farro Essalat AIA RIBA, Royal Institute of British Architects member, mentor, colleague, and associate. Farro Essalat AIA RIBA practiced in London and former professor and later Chairman of the School of Architecture and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University. Additional professional work included 8 years with CJK Design Group led by Christo Kamages FAIA and Lamberto Moris FAIA former partner at SMWM (Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Moris) designing buildings of faith, dwelling & community nationally. Krisjon Svanberg Design’s approach is based on conceptual and theoretical ideas informed by the site and allowing for innovative solutions to manifest with the interplay of space, light, material and form while delivering the function and practicality of the program. We challenge and question normal conventions, typologies and traditional indoctrinations related to the built environment to pursue new architectural ideas.
